Mindful Social Media Posting: 3 Things You Should Ask Yourself First
So you want to post on social media. Great! But before you do, there are a few things that you should ask yourself first. Are the posts that I create for my business appropriate? Will they be helpful to my followers? Will they help me grow my audience? These are all important questions to consider when planning your next social media post. In this article, we will discuss three questions that every content creator should ask themselves before posting – and how these considerations can have an impact on your brand’s success.
- Are my posts on brand/business related topics or are they based in personal life events?
- Does this post feel like it is coming from me, the individual blogger & content creator behind the business page? Or does it seem to be purely about promoting myself and my products?
An authentic social media presence allows for a more personal connection with followers. When posts feel too commercial or “salesy”, it can be off-putting to potential customers and followers. On the other hand, if your posts are based in personal life events (rather than only business related topics), followers will see that you’re a real person – someone they can relate to. This can help to build trust and create a lasting connection.
When it comes to social media, authenticity is key. Posts that are personal and relate-able will help you connect with your followers on a deeper level, which can lead to more sales in the long run.

2) Target Audience
When creating social media content, always keep your target audience in mind. What matters to them? What do they want to see? If you can provide valuable and interesting content that meets the needs of your followers, they will be more inclined to follow your posts, share them with friends and ultimately become a customer.
When it comes down to it, social media is all about providing value at every turn – both for yourself as the content creator/blogger & your target audience. When you take these things into consideration before creating each post, you will then have an easier time creating posts your target audience will genuinely enjoy.
3) Call to Action
- Do I need to include a call-to-action in this post? If so, what do I want the reader to do after reading it? (Like/follow my page? Join us at an event?)
A common mistake that many content creators make is not including a call-to-action (CTA) with their posts. A CTA is an action that you want your readers to take after reading the post.
For example, if you are writing a blog post about healthy eating tips for school lunches, one of your goals may be to get parents to sign up for daily emails from your company about healthy lunches. You can use a CTA such as “Sign up for our daily emails and we’ll send you all of the info you need to pack your kids’ school lunch with care!”
