Social Networking Sites: Your Web Presence
Filed Under Blogging, Networking and Marketing Strategy, Social Media and Social Networking Sites
Google™ Larry Brauner and you’ll find several pages of entries that pertain to me. A dozen entries or so link to profile pages in various social networking sites. Several of them link to pages in this blog.In a recent post I listed ”web presence” as one of the Top Reasons Why I Blog. Blogging is a marvelous way to build a web presence.
What about online social networking?
We think of social networking sites as places to meet, network and communicate with people. This is true.
But consider this: Online social networking sites are hosts to personal profiles. These profiles showcase you to fellow networkers, and at the same time they build your Internet presence, Web 2.0 social media style.
You can join a practically unlimited number of social networking sites and post your profile. Many of them will let you link to your blog or other favorite website.
Social networking software of your own may also be an option to consider. With social network software, you control and customize your own social networking site as you wish.
In any case, post a social networking profile that “brands” you. Do not post blatant advertisements.
I close with a note of caution: Don’t try networking actively on more than one or two social networking sites. You’ll spread yourself too thin and fail to develop the credibility and key relationships you’re looking for.

Good tips indeed, most of my accounts have been abandoned by now - no time to maintain all of them.
Just to let you know, your blog is in my google reader list now.
You’ve got good points there, especially the last part. Joining multiple social networking sites is not a healthy activity. It is like allowing yourself to attend parties simultaneously — and you cannot make it.
I remember my previous post with the same advise. However, yours is better.
Thanks!
@guardian angel I want to clarify the last point. It’s good for your web presence to join a lot of sites, but it’s not good to try and network on all of them.
Great tips i’ve left most my accounts also either because forgot password or i just don’t have time to maintain them.
Awesome blog keep the posts coming :D!!
I agree that blogging is a great way to build a strong web presence. It has become a popular way online of reaching out to others. Being in the 21st century, I have also been caught by the blogging bug.
Great tips! Agree on not being TOO active on more than one networking site. You can be very active on Facebook for example, and just post updates that link to your Facebook on Twitter. Or encourage your Twitter friends to join you on Facebook. That way your network is consolidated.
Awesome tips there! I love social networking. It doesn’t just let you connect with your friends, family and colleagues, but it also allows you unlimited opportunities to promote your business as well.
