I don’t know what Twitter is all about. I found that there are just people there just spreading random thoughts about themselves and what’s happening all around them. I don’t think they are using Twitter to their full potential and they are treating it just like a MySpace page! I don’t think Twitter intended this webpage for that.
The ironic thing Jeanine is that in the beginning of Twitter people weren’t doing much more than reporting on what they were up to in the course of their day. Twitter is hardly used that way anymore.
I don’t believe that Twitter’s founders knew where their experiment would lead. Even today we’re not sure what lies ahead.
Twitter is a giant party with lots of mingling. Going up to people at a party and talking only business to them would be inappropriate and a bit strange.
When people go to a party, they can discuss business, but they must also make small talk and be fun too.
Having said that, the 80/20 rule applies to Twitter like everything else. Of the people looking to do business on Twitter 80% of the business will be done by 20% of the people.
It’s important to look carefully at what’s happening on Twitter. Hopefully the articles I’ve referenced will give you a good picture of what Twitter is really about.
Hi Larry!
Wow, lots of great information here on how to use Twitter. Again, I’m bookmarking this page for future reference.
Now I just need some time to utilize all of it. Thanks, Larry for this great post.

Folks.. I’ll simply say this.. don’t underestimate the power and value of twitter. Just because you don’t “get it” right now does not mean there is nothing to “get”.
And, if you’re waiting to “hear” the value of twitter described by someone… it’s almost impossible. Just get in, find good help resources to shorten your learning curve.. such as Larry Brauner, and, most importantly, use twitter every day all day long… that’s when magic begins to happen… IMHO.
See you all around.
I’m very much intrigued about Twitter and what it can do for me. I found great ideas and tips here. Count on me to check back soon.
Thanks Larry!
Twitter is a great place to meet other people from around the country and to have conversations discussing topics of similar interest. When you are active, I have found this to become very VIRAL. Like Diane Hochman says, “People are naturally NOSY and want to know what others are doing”. This can be very effective if you write a BLOG or have a SITE where you want people to sign up. You MUST have good valuable content to offer people. BEWARE though, many people are using Twitter to SPAM others with their business deals right off the bat. This will work in reverse. People will unfollow you, and you could possibly get BANNED. Unfortunately, the masses WILL prevail and Twitter will become the ULTIMATE SPAMFEST. Oh well, as they say “Get it now while the gettin’ is good, because a good thing doesn’t last forever”.
Jeff
Jim, if you tell hem to be on Twitter all day long, you’ll scare them off. While tweeting all day may produce the best Twitter outcome, people need to do what best for themselves overall.
Thank all for your comments.
Hi Larry!
Wow! You really do have tons of resources here about Twitter.
I still wonder how to make it work for me.
Thanks for sharing all you know!
Just stumbled upon this tonight, Larry: great info here - I am a fairly new Twaddict (couldn’t resist) and am looking for ways to integrate Twitter with my weekly email marketing campaign, and for use in my business in general. I’ve bookmarked this page - will visit it again and again. Thanks!
Pchi,
To make Twitter or any other social media site work for you, you need a comprehensive marketing and social media strategy.
Hopefully some of the articles I’ve cited and others in my blog will help.
Fantastic list! I’ve got 6 tabs open right now headed toward them after I leave this comment. Again Larry, you have outdone yourself with the professional way you present information.
Thanks for the nice info.
In fact, I heard about Twitter but could not look at this good application due to some doubts about it.
Now I have cleared my mind about it.
Larry, looks like great information. I am going to bookmark this and come back to digest it further. I’ve been on Twitter for a while, and there is both an art and a science to it. The most important thing is to use twitter in line with your business plan objectives, something I am still working on.
Wow. There’s a lot of information about Twitter here. Glad I found the site. I have a Twitter account but don’t know what to do with it. Yep, guilty of just posting updates. I tried looking around but didn’t know what to do. LOL Thanks for the info
I’m just beginning to appreciate the awesome value of Twitter. Posted on my blog yesterday - tweeted about it, and lo and behold got Stumbled upon and increased my traffic by 200% overnight. And I have met tons of people in my niche and beginning to network both online and offline with them. I’m hooked.
Thanks for all these links too - I’m in for a good read!
@cottageguru
