Larry Brauner

In Creating a Home for Your Blog I discussed blogging platforms and stated my preference for starting a free-standing blog for greatest control and flexibility. Review that post to decide what’s best for you at the present time.

Blogging communities such as or, and social networking sites such as MySpace and Yuwie will host a blog for you.

However, if you decide on or another free-standing blogging platform, you must set up an account with a web hosting company.

Make sure to select Linux shared web hosting and not Microsoft hosting.

Here is a partial list of web hosting companies to consider for your blog:

Each web hosting company has its own features and pricing structure. All these hosting companies are mainstream. They’re listed in alphabetical order. Choose the one that best fits your plans.

If you choose a blog, and you have never used WordPress before, ask a freind or colleague to help. You can also contact me, and I will provide you with personal help for a very modest fee.

One side note: If you’re looking to buy domain names, 1&1 Internet offers .com domains with private registration for $6.99 per year.

    Your blog is the best!

I wanted to start my own blog, or at least post some articles in hopes of driving some free traffic to my web site.

After following your blog for a few weeks, I can see it takes a mountain of effort and knowledge. Your blog is so professional, well written, and informative.

I think I have a lot to learn before I jump in.

    With much Respect

Thank you Bill for your kind remarks.

My blog is what’s known as a pillar blog. Pillar blogs are challenging to write.

There are also commercial blogs and passion blogs.

I suggest that you start by writing a commercial blog at If that seems too daunting, then blogging at an Online Social Networking site will let you practice your writing.

It’s important to note that it’s not all or nothing. Just get started.

Read You Don’t Have to Get It Right for encouragement.

My colleage Bill Arnold and I have conference calls that may help.

I suggest you join my mailing list at my Social Media Marketing Training site.

Thank you for this information Larry; choosing the right web hosting that matches our needs is not easy, I have moved four times since this last three years. Lack of information makes me too confused to choose the right web hosting. I read some of your articles here and they are awesome. I learn many things from your blog. Thanks for sharing your expertize Larry :)
